As we get closer to Christmas, a visit to Mallorca’s cosmopolitan capital Palma is needed for all your Christmas shopping. Palma offers many interesting narrow streets to wander, browse in the local shops and find some wonderful products handcrafted on the island. Here is your guide to shopping in Palma de Mallorca!

Paseo del Borne

In the past few years Paseo del Borne has become the most important shopping street on the island, with the opening of Rialto Living, ROUGE Mallorca, the Louis Vuitton store, Hugo Boss, Escada and Bvlgari making this the ‘designer street’ for luxury shopping. Borne is now known as the golden mile of Palma.

Great if you want to find something your friends won’t have in their wardrobes! This two-storey boutique offers 300 square metres of retail space.

Another Spanish high street favourite is Massimo Dutti for affordable fashion. There is a flagship store just off the Borne and it is well worth a visit. Prices are generally lower in Spain for Zara and Massimo Dutti than in Northern Europe.

Avenida Jaime III

If you are on Avenida Jaime III it can mean only one thing – shopping. It was Palma’s most important high street until Borne become the new designer street for the big brands but now you will still find stores such as Cartier and Lottusse here. El Corte Inglés also have a store here, a bit smaller than the one on Avenidas, and has a good selection of products. A great option if you are looking for high quality clothing is Farinelli Boutique, which offers a wide selection of casual clothing from some very popular brands such as Peserico, Fabiana Filippi, Manzoni 24 or Philippe Model among others.

El Corte Inglés

If it is department store shopping you are looking for then the main one in Spain is El Corte Inglés and there are two stores in Palma – the largest one is in the Avenida de Alexandre Roselló and the smaller one in Jaime III. El Corte Inglés now stock many international brands and is well worth a visit.

Via Verí

It is hard to believe that walking along this little lane you can find some impressive old palaces. There are interesting shops such as Bondian and Janer and several important art galleries.

The lively streets next to the Via Verí are full of stylish retailers and independent shops. Along the wide, stone street of Calle Sant Nicolau and smaller streets such as Costa d’en Brossa that wind out towards the Plaza Mercat, you will find American Vintage and Essential and the fantastic men’s shop, La Principal.

Central Palma

The long, narrow shopping street San Miguel leading from calle Olmos near Plaza España to Plaza Mayor and the nearby streets is where you will find the traditional, local shops of yesteryear. To truly experience shopping in Palma you need to pass through this street until you arrive at Plaza Cort. Ladies will find a great selection of leather shoes made in Spain as well as exclusive boutiques and some well-known brand stores. Calle Quint is known amongst many Mallorcans as ‘the street with the stupid stairs’ (las escaleras tontas), as you never know whether to take the steps one, two or three at a time – which unfortunately means you spend most of your time looking down rather than taking in lovely shop windows of places such as Pasatiempos, La Industrial toy shop, and La Pajarita.

Soak up the atmosphere at a café, have a picnic in the park or set off on a bus to another part of the island from Plaza España.
